Thank you for your interest in submitting your art, spoken word, or poetry to the 2020 We All Belong - UMD Campus Climate Art Show.

Submissions are open to anyone from the UMD Campus Community and must be themed around UMD's Strategic Plan - Goal 2: Create a positive and inclusive campus climate for all by advancing equity, diversity and social justice.

Taking inclusivity to the next level…
NEW FOR 2020: We are now accepting Spoken Word and Poetry submissions! In addition, all winning submissions will be displayed in the UMD Kathryn A. Martin Library following the art reception.

Submissions should fall into one of the three following categories:

  1. Diversity on campus
  2. Inclusivity: A welcoming campus
  3. Civility: Anti-bullying

Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria:

  1. Relation to Goal 2
  2. Creative Expression

The following prizes will be awarded by a judging panel:

  • Gold Award (students only) - (3) $100
  • Silver Award (students only) - (6) $75
  • Bronze Award (students only) - (5) $50
  • Judges Choice (faculty and staff members) - (1) recognition certificate each

Artwork submission specifications and timelines:

PLEASE READ ALL OPTIONS CAREFULLY
*Limit one entry per person

2-D Art

12" x 18" maximum, with or without frame, ready to hang

SUBMISSION DATE & PLACE: Between 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2020, Griggs Center (KSC 202, through the Multicultural Center)

Submissions need to have sturdy hanging hardware attached (picture wire, D-rings, cleats, etc.), or able to be easily hung with push pins

Submission form must be filled out in completion one week prior to submitting your artwork.


3-D Art

20" x 20" x 20" maximum, will be displayed on a table
SUBMISSION DATE & PLACE: Between 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2020, Griggs Center (KSC 202, through the Multicultural Center)

Submission form must be filled out in completion one week prior to submitting your artwork.


Poetry

12" x 18" maximum, printed or handwritten, with or without frame, ready to hang
SUBMISSION DATE & PLACE: Between 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2020, Griggs Center (KSC 202, through the Multicultural Center)

Spoken Word

3 minutes maximum time limit
SUBMISSION DATE & PLACE: (two options)

  1. Record your original spoken word submission live in our photo studio (316 Darland Administration Building) on Monday, February 17, 2020. Contact Brett Groehler, bgroehle@d.umn.edu, 218-726-7115, to schedule your time slot.
    OR
  2. Add a digital video recording of your original spoken word piece to your Google Drive and share file with chan@d.umn.edu by Monday, February 17, 2020. File format should be in MP4 or MOV. Please include your first and last name in the file name.

All spoken word submissions will be showcased at the art reception via video monitor. In addition, some artists will be chosen to be perform their piece live at the event. Those chosen to perform live will be contacted via email by Monday, February 24, 2020.

Submission form must be filled out in completion and submit prior to submitting your spoken word file.

Other Important Dates:

Tuesday, March 3, 2020
Art show opening and reception, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Griggs Center - KSC 202 (2nd floor of Kirby Student Center, through the Multicultural Center)

Wednesday, March 4, 2020
Art will be featured all day at the 2020 Summit on Equity, Race, and Ethnicity (in UMD Griggs Center)

Thursday, March 5, 2020
Pick up all artwork in Griggs Center between 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
NOTE - if your submission is chosen as a winning entry, it will be on display in the Kathryn A. Martin Library for the month following the art reception. We will contact you with further pick-up details.

Any unclaimed artwork will become property of the University.
