Endowed Chairs and Professorships
Faculty offer the intellectual capital upon which strong programs, innovative research, and student success are built. They enable UMD to create a margin of excellence, improving the quality of education for our students, and enhancing the research opportunities available on our campus.
Signifying the pinnacle of faculty achievement, an endowed chair or professorship is a faculty position that is permanently funded by charitable giving.
Endowed Faculty Positions (required minimums):
- Professorship $1,000,000
Benefits to You
Establishing an endowed chair or professorship at the University of Minnesota Duluth is a meaningful way to permanently honor the memory of a beloved family member or to recognize an individual’s dedication to science and education. A chair holder’s work is identified with his or her name and that of the chair—named by or for the donor—permanently recognizing the donor’s generosity and passionate commitment to advancing the boundaries of science.
Benefits to Faculty
The single greatest recognition the University of Minnesota Duluth can bestow upon a faculty member, an endowed chair is a powerful way for esteemed faculty to reach their highest research and educational aspirations.
Endowed positions allow the university to recruit and retain top faculty and recognize their talents and hard work by:
offering more competitive salaries
supporting their ongoing work with student-supported research and equipment
honoring their work and achievements
Benefits to the University
Top faculty who hold endowed positions elevate the entire UMD community. They attract other passionate teachers and scholars. They ignite their students' curiosity. Their cutting-edge discoveries turn the world's attention to our area, providing exceptional education opportunities for students, bringing in additional dollars in research grants and creating jobs.
