Renewal Application

Academic Year 2016-2017

Current residents of UMD Housing who wish to live on campus for the 2016-2017 academic year must participate in the Housing Renewal and Room Draw process as described below. Each step must be completed by the deadline listed.

Step One: Complete an Online Housing Application:

The Housing Application will be available online from February 15, 2016 to March 3, 2016. Applications must be submitted by 4 PM on March 3, 2016 in order to participate in Room Draw. Only current UMD Housing residents will be able to access the Housing Application.

Current residents who submit their Housing Application after 4 PM on March 3, 2016 will be assigned after Room Draw and after new students. The Housing Office cannot guarantee space for current residents who submit an application-contract after March 3, 2016.

Step Two: Make a $200 Installment Payment:

Students who complete an online Housing Application by March 3, 2016, will make a $200 installment payment at the Housing Information Desk in the Lake Superior Hall lobby. Payments can be made by credit or debit card between April 4, 2016 - April 8, 2016 from 1 PM - 4 PM each day. Cash or checks will not be accepted. Portions of the installment payment may be refundable -- see the housing contract for the conditions and schedule for refunds.

Step Three: Particpate in Room Draw:

Room Draw is the process by which UMD students who currently live in University residence halls or apartments choose where they will live during the next academic year.  The information provided below describes the ROOM DRAW PROCESS.

A group of current residents signing up together for an apartment may sign up one new freshman or transfer student  during Room Draw. The new freshman or transfer student  must submit an application-contract prior to Room Draw. The current resident(s) must obtain a PERMISSION SLIP from the Housing Office the week prior to Room Draw in order to sign up the non-current resident.

Room Draw Considerations For Apartment Residents

To qualify for current assignment renewal, a student must have been a resident in the specific apartment on or before February 1, 2016.  Those residents who have moved into an apartment after February 1, 2016, are not eligible for Current Assignment Renewal, but are eligible for Unit Switch.

If there are two residents who live in the same apartment at the time of room draw and both want to remain in the apartment , but do not wish to live together in their current assignment, renewal will be awarded to the resident (and his/her group) who has lived in the apartment for the greatest length of time.  If the length of time is equal for both, the decision will be made by a flip of a coin.

The resident (and his/her group) who loses current assignment renewal priority then participates in Unit Switch.  If no apartments are available within the same facility during Unit Switch, then the resident’s group may choose an apartment in another facility at this time and go on the waiting list for their current facility.
